Feeling completely drained, disconnected, or stuck? You're not alone. In this deeply personal episode of The Empowerment Diaries, I share my own experiences with burnout—from the week I spent bedridden in my early thirties to more recent moments of overwhelm that forced me to pause and recalibrate.

Burnout isn't a sign of weakness; it's often a powerful invitation to reassess our path and priorities. Using my background in emotional freedom techniques and coaching, I explore how these seemingly challenging moments can become transformative opportunities for growth when we learn to listen to our body's wisdom.

The journey from exhaustion to empowerment starts with practical strategies that anyone can implement. We delve into the healing power of creating what I call a "third space"—a sanctuary separate from work and relationships where you can simply be, reflect, and reconnect with your inner guidance. Whether it's a physical corner in your home with candles and meaningful objects, a regular walking routine in nature, or even a virtual community of like-minded souls, this sacred space allows you to tap into your spirit's wisdom when life feels overwhelming.

Alongside boundary-setting exercises and meditation practices, I share how shifting from stress-based motivation to a faith-focused approach transforms our relationship with productivity and purpose. The breakthrough comes when we stop fight

Carleta aka Lita:

So hello, it's me again, lita. Empowerment Diaries podcast. Thank you, welcome back my listeners. This is the Empowerment Diaries. This is episode four. We're talking about moving from burnout to breakthrough, how to reclaim your energy, and I do believe this is a topic that many of us, many ages, many genres, can identify with. It's nice to think that we can take hold of ourself and our circumstances before we get to the point of burnout, but life happens, doesn't it? Let's delve in to how we can best support ourselves, exercise self-care, support ourselves, exercise self-care.

Carleta aka Lita:

In episode three, I spoke about our connection to the divine feminine. We explore the divine feminine and how embracing the energy of the divine feminine can bring more balance and flow into our lives. I do hope to hear from you as to your experience in tapping within, listening to yourself being present, following your internal prompts, your internal guide, the divine within. I'm looking forward to being inspired and I'm really looking forward to sharing your story. I am about tapping within, within, our inner goddess, the goddess within. I fashion myself as being the goddess of growth, not that I have everything in order, but that I am one. To really focus on growth not on anyone else's terms, but my own. Progress is success. So today we're tackling a topic that I do believe many of us will relate to, whether it's from work, relationships or just the pace of modern life burnout. Burnout can leave us feeling drained and disconnected, but the good news is there are ways to reclaim our energy and find our way back to joy and purpose. I believe I've experienced it many times in life. I know that I have a habit of just zoning out when things overwhelm me or have done in the past, and there has been times when I've worked and worked, and worked and as much as I've not seen progress, I've just forced myself to continue until I could not move any further, can do nothing more, and then I allow the universe to just take whatever it is that's blocking my way, causing struggle, despondency, a disconnect.

Carleta aka Lita:

One significant time I remember in my early 30s had me staying in bed for a week, which is just not like me. I'm usually an early riser. I believe in those days it was easier, easier just to just chill. Not that I slept all day, but it was definitely a case of every day in bed reading books and then just being. It was different because I'm usually one to get up early, four, five, six o'clock. So that was a week that was very significant to me. Hasn't happened since, except a weekend, most recently actually. Yes, there was a time Wasn't quite burnout, but I definitely felt a bit overwhelmed and woke up early but had a couple of days in bed just reading and relaxing and chilling.

Carleta aka Lita:

There's a difference between taking time out for self-care versus pushing ourselves to the limit till we cannot do anymore. Burnout itself can leave us feeling drained and disconnected, not wanting to be part of anything, not wanting to do anything. Everything a struggle. The good news is there are ways for us all to reclaim our energy and find our way to joy and purpose. How do we do it? Well, we need to think about our emotional well-being, our physical well-being, and be prepared to take that time out. It isn't a sign of weakness when we find ourselves in situations and moments in life where everything just crashes. I do believe often those experiences are some of the greatest experiences we have in our life. We are forced to stop and take stock as to our path, our journey, our sense of purpose, our sense of meaning. It's a sign of strength to be able to take a stop, stand still and regroup, allowing our body and our mind to connect, allowing ourselves to get quiet, to listen, to slow down, prioritising our well-being. Never feel ashamed at pushing yourself to the limit. Use it as a lesson. Listen to the markers, listen to the warning signs so that you can prevent yourself from getting to that stage and phase of burnout.

Carleta aka Lita:

I spoke previously of emotional freedom techniques, and emotional freedom techniques can be a useful daily practice and pivotal in preventing burnout. It allows you to ask yourself questions, almost like self-coaching, and if you manage to get a group of people together, you could take time with those others to help you make some great changes with regards to how you view your life experience. Tap into your beliefs, tap into those triggers that make you feel that stress is the way forward. Some of us get used to stress as a way of guiding us to next steps, and some level of stress can actually be useful. It becomes an issue when we rely on it to get us moving for all things. Our attitude to life, if we think the only way we can be successful is to be stressed, is very different versus coming towards life and approaching it with a sense of faith and flow, being able to relax and listen to ourselves as to the best way to go forward. Eft is the thing to use, the tool to use before burnout happens. When you're feeling overwhelmed, do tap in. We're working on our nervous system, our triggers.

Carleta aka Lita:

Another thing to practice would be something like meditation. It is one to build upon. You could record your voice. Well, there's many recordings out there. I love the silence. I love the quiet. I love listening to nature. I do love listening to a Buddhist chant. I am not Buddhist, but I love to listen to the chant. It relaxes my mind. Take a few minutes each day simply to be present, doing what suits you. You might find doing something like painting is something that you find therapeutic and relaxes your mind.

Carleta aka Lita:

Meditation is about allowing your subconscious just to do what it needs to do, releasing or relinquishing total control, allowing yourself to be your best guide. It will help deal with those feelings of being overwhelmed. Your breath on its own can help with meditation. Taking a walk. The idea really is to feel grounded. Create a space where you can be grounded. Some people recommend using your bare feet to walk on the ground. If you've got a garden, maybe try it.

Carleta aka Lita:

Some of the reasons included into why we get so overwhelmed. And as they say at the end of Far Tether, can be connected to others, but in truth, in truth, it all stems from ourselves. People only mirror back to us our internal beliefs, and part of that mirror, that reflection, is being in a position to set boundaries for ourselves so that, no matter what is reflected back, we are able to manage how we receive all the energy around us and also to manage the energy that we're putting out there as well. Emotions like guilt, shame, jealousy, even that sense of wanting to be in control whilst ultimately feeling out of control those are the things that one can use emotional freedom techniques to tap on. Every time we tap, we raise our energy and spirit gets involved to help us shift those things that's blocking our meridian points. Sometimes, just becoming aware of what's blocking us is enough to release those blockages.

Carleta aka Lita:

And talking about boundaries and others, think about tapping into what I like to call a third space, one that's separate and aside from your intimate partnerships, relationships, familial relationships. I come from a big family. I have three lovely, lovely sisters that I can talk to most any time, two in particular, and I have an extended family of half-siblings those that are like family. I always have people to talk to. Some people don't, but even with those that I'm comfortable speaking to, there are times that we need a space that we can just be and talk, reflect, heal, get some growth tips and move on.

Carleta aka Lita:

It's about having a space where people can tap in, not just to the situation, which we can really ever see clearly, but the spirit within. What is spirit guiding you to do? Taking away and removing all your fears, the anxiety, everything that's making you feel as if you're entering that burnout space. You can create a third space for yourself in your home set up candles. Some people like to have a little bit of a space or altar where they can sit and pray. You may want to have a group of people that you meet in a community centre. We have the online space now where you can connect with others via WhatsApp, other social media platforms. On TikTok, they like to use things like Discord, which is great. Choose your space and choose the peers around you to make sure that that third space that you can go to allows you to tap in and release. It's your space. It could be that space of after you've finished work. You go to a coffee shop, you sit and have a coffee and you just sit and chill, take a book, maybe even a notepad, and start journaling Again.

Carleta aka Lita:

Walking, being in nature, helps. Walking is my therapy. I haven't done too much of it of late. I moved to a little village many years ago now. Well, since the pandemic no-transcript, look at the areas in your life where boundaries might need to be tightened up a bit. Sometimes you may have too strong a boundary preventing creativity and growth. Life has many colours. Right For me, setting boundaries and creating a third space have been transformative in my life. It's about acknowledging when I need a bit of extra support, whilst also acknowledging when I need that quiet time to go within. Having the third space that I create with my peers, people that are on the growth journey even that quiet space where I can light a candle, burn some incense or just sit, listen to some mantras and just be, helps me feel grounded enough that I can face what comes next and understand fully what comes next. I have not got a clue what that will be, but I'll be ready for it. Life becomes much more rewarding when we feel supported and we're focused on flow rather than attempting to block out energies from others and elsewhere, or even, most importantly, from within.

Carleta aka Lita:

So I invite you to let me know about any experiences that you have personally had that has resulted in burnout. Tell me what helped you get through it. Include your story in the comments or send me a message. I'd love to hear from you. Coaching is available if you're struggling with burnout. I'd love to support you through it. I'm happy to use coaching with emotional freedom techniques just to let you know how to go about things on a daily basis.

Carleta aka Lita:

Alternative therapies are alternative therapies. They help us go along. There is no immediate fix for any of the symptoms that you might be presenting with, might be presenting with. What I will say with emotional freedom techniques is that you can feel better within real time, and that's what we're aiming for. The idea is like attracts, like, so the better we feel is the better we feel, the better things become, regardless of circumstances, because we understand. A lot of it is about perspective. Even in the darkest situation, understanding no matter what's going on, we are actually being supported. In the grand scheme of things, we are being supported to rise up, to grow.

Carleta aka Lita:
