Trapped in repetitive thought patterns? Feeling overwhelmed by life's challenges? Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) might be the key to unlocking your emotional resilience.

Having practiced EFT since 2009 when I first qualified as a consultant hypnotherapist, I've witnessed its transformative power firsthand. This powerful tool combines ancient Chinese acupressure with modern psychology, allowing us to release emotional blocks by tapping on specific meridian points throughout our body. The beauty lies in its simplicity – anyone can learn it, practice it anywhere, and share it with loved ones.

What draws me most to EFT is how it breaks the cycle of repetitive storytelling that often accompanies trauma. Instead of rehashing the past or anxiously anticipating the future, tapping anchors us firmly in the present moment. I share a remarkable story about a young girl who overcame her button phobia in just 20 minutes through this technique, demonstrating how quickly EFT can dissolve even deeply-rooted fears.

The podcast walks you through a complete EFT session, teaching you how to identify challenging emotions, rate their intensity, and systematically tap through meridian points while repeating affirming statements. This practice helps quiet the nervous system and builds a foundation of self-trust – because if we can't trust ourselves, how can we truly trust anyone else?

Carleta aka Lita:

So, moving forward onto episode two, we're looking into tapping into emotional freedom, an introduction to EFT, emotional freedom techniques. You are with Lita and this is the Empowerment Diaries. I'm your host. This is a podcast I've launched so that I can network, build a community, talk through hints and tips for self-care, resilience, spiritual awareness. Thank you so much for being here and for listening.

Carleta aka Lita:

I do hope you enjoyed the very first episode. It was really a brief introduction to my background. I think it was about 10 minutes or so, quick introduction and it explained my career background and it explained my career background. It explained my life, my childhood and my desire to share my wisdom and knowledge. Now, age 50, and hopefully with my life experience shared, you can navigate a lot of challenges and changes in your own life easily and comfortably. I am a consultant hypnotherapist, I do life coaching and in my day-to-day life, life, I love to practice emotional freedom techniques. Now I know it's been a while since our last episode and I want to be honest with you. I'm still figuring the podcasting out and I'm still figuring life out. That's at 50. There is no time limit terms for the podcast. I scripted everything I wanted to say, well prepared, and then life started happening as it always does and my focus shifted. But I reflected earlier today that actually, these are the very moments and challenges that is worth actually sharing, sharing how one gets through. I can't wait for perfection and for ease, to be in a position to share the tools and the tips that everyone needs right now. So, putting perfection aside, makeup is on. For those that can see me and for those that are listening, all of thank you so much for being here. Personal challenges and changes we all go through them, don't we? And I know often we are soothed with ideas that things will get better, and ultimately they do, do they not? Will get better, and ultimately they do, do they not? Well, welcome to this podcast, which is really focused on growth, empowerment and community. It is about me sharing tools with you, and hopefully you can share tools with me too, tools that have transformed my life and can transform yours too. I'm loving the capabilities of this podcast, which encourages you to leave a message, ideas for future podcasts, and I'm happy to take on the feedback and respond accordingly.

Carleta aka Lita:

Today, I'd like to share emotional freedom techniques with you. It is a powerful tool that combines ancient Chinese acupressure with modern psychology. That's what it says. I've been practicing it since 2009, when I first qualified as a consultant hypnotherapist. It works by tapping on specific meridian points, which we can release our emotional blocks, and it's said to calm our nervous system. My experience tells me it down and release it, the idea being our behaviour is very much based on our core beliefs.

Carleta aka Lita:

Emotional freedom techniques has definitely been a lifeline for me, especially when it comes to storytelling, repetitive storytelling. Anyone that's been through any form of trauma will tell you that there are times when there's certain stories that come up again and again. Whether you meditate, go for counseling like it's about being aware of the story. Emotional freedom techniques gives us the opportunity to tap into the here and the now, bringing us forward into the here and now. So we do less looking back, less looking forward. We're present, which means we end up feeling less stress, less feelings of being overwhelmed, less stress, less feelings of being overwhelmed. It is a process. I have been practicing it since 2009 and I definitely still have my anxious moments. They are few and far between. It helps us to develop more faith in life, regardless of your religious beliefs. Develop more faith in life regardless of your religious beliefs, spiritual inclination it helps us to be so present that the story on a level doesn't matter. We actually start maturing into ourselves as we acknowledge a lot of the stories that we tell ourselves are just that. A lot of the stories that we tell ourselves are just that stories I tap whilst doing emotional freedom techniques with others On my own.

Carleta aka Lita:

I no longer need to tap, but it is worth learning the basic setup for yourself. You can do it for yourself, with your partner, with your child. In fact, when I was doing the course in 2009, there was a little girl that had a phobia about buttons. She came with her parents and she was afraid of touching anyone that wore buttons, which meant her father could not hold her whilst he was in his usual shat. Everyone wears buttons occasionally, right, and it was a little girl. The tapping pursued because you can do it for others as well and within I'd say, 20 minutes not even that long she was able to go to others with buttons.

Carleta aka Lita:

Now, for some people, emotional freedom techniques work quickly. It can help not just with your beliefs. Beliefs are attached to habits, right, so it can help you tap into your habits and release your habits. I find the power in tapping into my story, because I understand a number of stories can have me set in a number of illusions about life. So, however you want to use it, I highly recommend that you learn the setup and tap in.

Carleta aka Lita:

The setup is quite easy. We start by identifying a topic that has us feeling out of alignment and we identify positive feelings as being in alignment and so-called negative feelings as being out of alignment. All feelings, in my opinion, are opinion, are to be embraced. We need them so that we can identify how we truly feel about any given scenario, whether or not our feelings are justified. Life is about learning to trust our feeling because ultimately, that is our guide feeling because ultimately that is our guide. So with emotional freedom techniques, the setup involves tapping.

Carleta aka Lita:

So many will tap on the head and think about the situation that is bothering them, the stress, the doubt, the conflict, and they'll rate it from 1 till ten, one being actually I'm very good, I'm okay. Ten actually I cannot deal with this anymore. And you would just start tapping. And you start tapping in your head and think about the situation and really tap into the emotion, really feel the emotion as to how you think and feel about that subject. It's emotional freedom techniques. For a reason, you're tapping into the emotion and you will then start tapping.

Carleta aka Lita:

I will start at the eyebrow and I will say to you as follows think about the situation. Even though I'm feeling unsettled today, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. You're tapping at the eyebrow. Go towards the side of the eye. Even though I'm feeling unsettled today, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. Then you will tap under the eye. Love and accept myself. Then you will tap under the eye, repeat it again Even though I feel unsettled today, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. Under the nose, even though I feel unsettled today, I deeply and completely love and accept myself On the chin. Love and accept myself on the chin, even though I feel unsettled today, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. Collarbone, even though I feel unsettled today, I deeply and completely love and accept myself under the arm, even though I feel unsettled today, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. And finish again at the top of the head. You can use your two hands. Even though I feel unsettled today, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. Oh, breathe. And what you will do? You'll score the feeling from one to ten, ten being really feel like that and one being actually I'm all okay and just breathe.

Carleta aka Lita:

And the idea is that you keep doing this setup and keep scoring. Ideally you want to get to zero. One is good. You no longer have that connected feeling to the I feel unsettled today or whatever it is that you're feeling. It doesn't end there. Once you release that feeling, when you've got some time, do tap into it and just question why you believe you feel the way you feel about this given situation. Mind you, when you're starting this it's nice to work with another because they will be able to coach you and prompt you and ask you the question. But you can do it on your own. You can start it by looking into a mirror, looking into your eyes and tapping along as you release how you're feeling, that feeling that doesn't feel so comfortable, and as you get more and more comfortable and release that feeling.

Carleta aka Lita:

You can do a bit more work to identify why you felt that way in the first place. You may find the feeling was connected to a number of belief systems. That may not necessarily be true and those belief systems you can often identify if there are any shoulds, woulds and coulds in your reason for being or feeling the way you were when you first started doing the setup for emotional freedom techniques techniques. I have been navigating my own personal challenges. I live alone, I have a mortgage, I'm 50 years old, so there are some responsibilities that many of us have at this age right, and I am one that can often go into auto mode when things start moving around me, because I often forget that it's not that I have control of the external, it's the internal that I am to get in touch with.

Carleta aka Lita:

Listen, being comfortable in listening to ourselves is really important, and emotional freedom techniques can actually guide us back to ourself, back to that inner self that talks to us, speaks to us all the time, helping us to build confidence, because, ultimately, if we cannot trust ourself, we really cannot trust anyone else. So we're building strength, we're building resilience and we're taking time out for self-care and we're tapping away at those feelings. That's preventing us from seeing the bigger picture. Because the truth is, whilst we're feeling low and anxious, we're not often acknowledging the sunshine, we're not often acknowledging the flow, we're looking at the roadblocks along the way, attempting to shift those, when other things are clearly moving smoothly and flowing. Emotional freedom techniques is what I am talking about today. What other tools do you use when you're going through challenges? Some people will take time out to go and talk to others. You could actually share emotional freedom techniques with your friends, with your community partners. I do believe it's the kind of tool that helps us progress together.

Carleta aka Lita:

Life is about growth, is it not? Together? Life is about growth, is it not Taking responsibility for how we approach our mental health, our spiritual well-being, self-care being important. I am very much on a in a chapter of life, should I say, focusing on the divine feminine, the softer side of life. Life has been very hard and we are in a time of hardship, so it is about finding the moments in the day where we can exercise self-care and give our brains a rest right. In the next episode, I will be exploring the energies around, tapping within, focusing on the divine feminine.
